Fear and Walking Dead Crossing Over Again

SPOILER ALERT: Read on only if y'all have already watched the Fearfulness the Walking Dead flavor four premiere.

We knew that Lennie James' Morgan would be making the movement from The Walking Expressionless to Fearfulness the Walking Expressionless in the companion series' 4th flavour. What we didn't know is that 3 of his TWD costars would be joining him — fifty-fifty if it was for only for a scene apiece. And we've got the scoop from the man who oversees both shows, Scott Yard. Gimple, on how it happened.

Later the cold open and the new Fear credits sequence, nosotros returned back to the trash heaps location previously occupied past Jadis and the Scavengers, and there was Morgan, lone. But not for long. Considering then a parade of familiar faces made their way to try to convince Morgan to return with them.

First it was Jesus, who reminded the homo he sparred with physically and philosophically in the past that "the reason we fought is to protect people. You care about people. Y'all should be with them." And so it was Carol, who begged the homo she sparred with physically and philosophically in the past to "come up dorsum to the Kingdom. Yous helped me. You did. Permit me help you.… Y'all belong with people who intendance well-nigh you lot."

But the best was saved for last, as the human being whom Morgan met way back in the starting time always episode of the serial popped by to try his hand at information technology. That's right, Rick Grimes and Andrew Lincoln just crossed over to Fearfulness the Walking Dead. And it was a key moment every bit the one-time Deputy Sheriff used the opportunity to remind his old friend how Morgan had saved him fashion back when: "I wouldn't be here if it wasn't for you lot," said Rick. "I was hurt. You lot brought me in. You didn't take to."

And at present, Rick wanted to return the favor. "Yous are hurt," Mr. Grimes connected. "Come back with me. Don't expect this time. Don't waste i more 2d of your life. You're role of the globe. I'k hither now — a lot of people are here now — considering you helped me correct at the beginning." When Morgan insisted he was no longer the same man, Rick had a uncomplicated reply: "You'll terminate up with people one way or the other. You're connected. You can hibernate, but you can't run." And so Morgan ran.

So how did this epic crossover extravaganza happen? Michael Satrazemis — who serves as TWD's manager of photography (while likewise directing several episodes) and was moving over to pull double-duty as directing producer on Fright — was tasked with filming the scenes, giving total familiarity between the TWD actors, the TWD director, and the TWD set… even though information technology was all existence filmed for sister show Fear.

"Information technology was super easy to shoot because this takes place afterward [the events of The Walking Dead flavour finale]," says Gimple. "So, Morgan winds upward on a continuing set of The Walking Dead, a set that Mikey knew very well, with actors he knew very well. And we did information technology before the end of Walking Expressionless because the productions of the series did overlap. So information technology was unbelievably piece of cake."

Gimple also notes that TWD stars Lincoln (Rick), Melissa McBride (Carol) and Tom Payne (Jesus) were more than happy to put an appearance in on the other show. "That trio has a bully deal of love for Mr. Lennie James," says Gimple. "So I think information technology was harder to not have more people practice it because people want to come out and support Lennie James and tell a great story with Morgan. So that wasn't i of the more hard things on this evidence."

Was at that place ever a idea of having even more Walking Dead stars make cameos? Gimple says that at that place was only and so much fourth dimension to devote to the cast from the mothership evidence before Morgan set out on his new adventure. "It was a behave, time-wise, that episode," says Gimple. "We would've loved that to be another hr probably, only we attacked information technology from the showtime knowing that we had to tell a tight story. So, yep, I'd love to accept dissimilar Walking Dead characters on there, but at that place is a smashing deal of story to tell. It'south e'er been the trouble I've had on Walking Dead, and now, Fear of the Walking Dead. I love these characters, and I want to portray every flake of their lives I tin can, only it's a big ensemble."

Gimple also stresses that the Rick, Ballad, and Jesus cameos are more than a mere stunt and truly serve to propel Morgan'due south story forward. "It was there merely because it has everything to practise with Morgan's story, and those exchanges he has in that scene really do impact him deeply and play out into the unabridged season of the show," says Gimple. "The conversation that Rick and Morgan have is super-of import to the whole season of Fear of the Walking Dead. Information technology wasn't but a farewell, it was a seminal moment in Morgan'due south life."
